About us

Stories of India’s artisans reflect an evolution of diverse art forms, born out of cultural dictates and traditional practices. They have been practiced widely, from home to home and region to region—deeply woven into the social fabric. There are stories of creativity, ingenuity, sustainability and resourcefulness.

“Kathya”, which means stories" in Sanskrit aims to give a voice to these stories—bringing to light these core practices and philosophies.

We collaborate with artisan collectives/social enterprises pan India, to bring to customers handcrafted home, kitchen and personal use fabric based products. These are made with 100% cotton, and largely use azo free or plant based dyes. Our artisans specialize in art forms such as hand-block printing, hand embroidery (specifically traditional arts of Lambani and Kantha embroidery), hand-quilting, crochet as well as handloom weaving.

These talented artisans often rely on their art to sustain their livelihoods and support their families. Our mission is to help them economically by bringing their work into the global market, while also helping them preserve and bequeath their knowledge, skills and heritage for future generations.
