They reflect the values of resourcefulness, beauty, and tradition. At Kathya—which means stories in Sanskrit—we aim to share these timeless craft traditions with the world. Our mission is to give voice to artisans and celebrate the practices, philosophies, and artistry behind their evolution.

We partner with artisan collectives and social enterprises across India to create handcrafted products for the home, kitchen, and everyday living. Each piece is made from cotton and dyed with azo-free or plant-based dyes, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices. Our artisans are masters of traditional crafts, including hand-block printing, Lambadi embroidery, Kantha embroidery, hand quilting, crochet, and handloom weaving. Every product tells a story of India’s craft heritage while adding beauty and function to modern homes.

Growing up in India, I was surrounded by rich textiles and handmade traditions—craftsmanship has always been a part of my daily life. As the founder of Kathya, I’m inspired by the artistry, stories, and soul behind every handmade piece. Through Kathya, my goal is to celebrate this heritage by offering timeless, handcrafted home décor that fits beautifully into modern homes, while also supporting the skilled artisans who keep these traditions alive.

The Porgai Artisans Association is a collective of skilled Lambadi women artisans from Tamil Nadu, India. Guided by Dr. Lalitha Regi, this group of over 60 artisans has preserved and elevated the rich legacy of Lambadi embroidery—each stitch a reflection of their cultural identity. “Porgai,” meaning pride, speaks not only to the artistry they uphold but also to the dignity and independence their craft brings to their lives.

Project Purkul stands as a beacon in the Himalayan region, safeguarding the legacy of artisanal craftsmanship while championing the expertise of female artisans. Inspired by travels and a rediscovery of local craftsmanship in places like Bhagalpur, Eastern India, this small enterprise celebrates the beauty and quiet brilliance of Indian 'craftspeople'—honoring their artistry on both national and global stages.
